Fanfare and Excitement as Xpress Payments emerge winners of AWA Premier Cup Season 2

It was all fanfare and excitement at Grange Secondary School, Harold Shodipo Crescent on Saturday, 26th October, as members of Staff & fans of Xpress Payments relished a year-long desire of emerging winners of the annual Awa Premier Football Tournament hosted in honor of Alhaji AWA Ibraheem, the Company’s Vice-Chairman.
The tournament, usually organized to foster the spirit of unity and togetherness between Xpress Payments and her sister companies featured other sporting activities such as 50 and 100m Dashes, Egg race and Relay Race.
The cynosure of fans’ attention was however the football tournament as Mobayo Adegboye emerged Cream of the Crop for Xpress Payments in what was a truly intriguing and keenly contested tournament.
Going into the tournament, Xpress Payments and defending champions ICMA Professionals had advanced into into the Semi-Finals by virtue of being the host and defending champions respectively. A draw of the lot pitted Oceanic Health against Xpress Payments who emerged 2-0 winners thanks to a Mobayo Brace while the second Semi-Final pitted ICMA Professionals against Prime Metro who had previously knocked out Oak Pensions after a penalty shoot-out.
Against the odds, Prime Metro proceeded to the Finals, thanks to goal-keeping heroics from their goalkeeper who parried away two penalties after having missed one himself. This victory set up an entertaining final between Xpress Payments and Prime Metro, two sides who had previously not encountered each other in a competitive game.
After a drab First-Half performance in which neither side failed to cancel out each other, the Second Half delivered more intrigue and the type of excitement the spectators had yearned for.
A superb brace from Mobayo and a reactive effort from substitute Kunle, helped Xpress Payments ease to a comfortable 3-0 second half win and secured them the trophy, much to the delight of their fans.
Following what a sensational performance with 4 goals scored in two games, Mobayo Adegboye was duly awarded player of the Tournament.
